One day I picked up an issue of jobpostings magazine and found a small ad on the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis that read Live the Adventure. Judging by the picture in the ad of a lodge nestled in the heart of these great Canadian Rockies, I sent them a cover letter and resum├® via e-mail. I started as a room attendant and after three short weeks became a houseperson. For five months the houseperson job was great but then I was given the opportunity to apply for the position of a bellman. So I did and was successful in achieving the position.What advice do you have for students looking to land their first job?The travel and tourism industry has many opportunities. Before starting at the Delta Lodge at Kananaskis I had never worked in a hotel before and found that if you are a good worker and easy to get along with the opportunities are endless. When you think about it, there are hotels everywhere, in cities, resorts, even floating hotels (cruise ships). If interested, there are great possibilities at the Delta Lodge because people come and go quite often and if you can stick it out for a little while you can advance pretty quickly. jpSponsored by Rogers
