What they do
KPMG provides Audit, Tax and Advisory services to many organizations across all sectors in Canada; privately owned publicly traded, public sector and not-for-profit.
A little bit of history
The KPMG International network was formed in 1987 when Peat Marwick International and Klynveld Main Goerdeler merged along with their respective member firms. In Canada, the firm's roots go back to 1840. Since that date, more than 115 predecessor firms in communities across the country have joined forces to create what is now KPMG LLP (Canada). For more check out the website to learn more about KPMG.
Today, KPMG LLP is one of the nation's oldest accounting firms and has over 430 Partners and 5,000 full-time employees at 33 offices working together to help Canadian businesses achieve their goals.
KPMG LLP is the Canadian member firm of Switzerland-based KPMG International Cooperative, which has over 145,000 professionals at offices in 152 countries.
KPMG actively supports and encourages international assignments through their Global Opportunities program. The firm currently has over 90 countries that participate in the program.
KPMG’s innovative campus programs allow them to attract top talent from campuses across the country. Here are some highlights:
KPMG’s Summer Internship Program offers hands on experiences to provide you with a kick start to your career. The most important thing about KPMG’s summer intern program is the rotational aspect. This means spending half of your internship in an audit industry group and the other half in another area of the firms: advisory, tax, campus recruitment, diversity… the list goes on. Whether you are at a client engagement or playing ultimate frisbee with your fellow summer interns, this opportunity will mean amazing development opportunities and fun. Find out what a day in the life of a summer intern at KPMG is like.
The Global Internship Program is an amazing opportunity that students who have accepted a summer internship opportunity with KPMG are eligible to apply for. The program gives exceptional students the opportunity to spend four weeks working at one of KPMG’s member firms around the world. Global Interns get the chance to participate in local culture, learn local business practices, and come home with a memorable story to share.
KPMG’s Co-op Program provides university students with the opportunity to develop your career while you finish school. You will have exposure to a variety of service lines, get client engagement exposure, support to volunteer in your community and receive amazing training sessions from senior management. This foot in the door is a great way to build relationships, expand your skills and make an impression early. For more information check out what a day in the life of a co-op at KPMG is like.
KPMG’s Ace the Case Workshop and Competition is a unique opportunity to learn how to plan, write, present and debrief a case. The workshop is designed for commerce students with a long-term interest in pursuing a Professional Accounting designation. The 2013 Winning National team will represent Canada at the KPMG International Case Competition in Madrid, Spain!
Respecting the diverse backgrounds, talents and contributions of people creates a culture where everyone can succeed. KPMG is consistently ranked as one of Canada’s Top Employers for Diversity and Canada’s Best Employers for New Canadians.
Part of KPMG’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion initiative is to encourage and support various clubs, like pride@KPMG, Women's Interchange Network (WIN), East Asian Network (EAN), Parents of Children with Special Needs, and many more.

Degrees they like
Most people who come to work for KPMG obtain their CA, which means acquiring a certain number of specified university or college course credits, passing a series of professional examinations (including the UFE) and articling for a few years at an accounting firm or licensed CA training office. You’ll probably have a business degree (BBA, or a B.Comm, or a Business Administration degree). They do hire a few select students from various master’s programs to their growing Advisory practice but your best bet is an undergraduate business degree with an accounting focus.
