A little bit of history

Tim’s was founded in 1964 in Hamilton, Ontario by the eponymous NHL all-star and his friend and business partner Ron Joyce, a Hamilton police constable. In the 90s, they merged with Wendy’s and began their expansion throughout the US. Then in 2009, the company came back home, under Canadian management again as Tim Hortons Inc. At last look, they rack up over $2 billion in yearly sales.

Locations

In most Canadian cities, you can’t go far without finding a Tim Hortons restaurant; they have over 3000 locations in total, in every province and territory. The country’s busiest restaurant is in Yellowknife. There are Tim Hortons in ten states, in the UK and Ireland, and there’s even a location near the Canadian Forces Base in Kandahar. Their head office is in Oakville, Ontario.

Workspace

You’re probably pretty familiar with the way your local Tim Hortons looks and feels, and each restaurant is slightly different depending on its location. One thing they all have in common, however, is that they’re busy. Expect an extremely fast-paced, guest-focused environment.

Programs/co-ops/internships

The Team Tim Hortons Scholarship Programs awards 220 students $1000 each, every year. It’s designed to support the education of students who are active in their communities through volunteer work. Other programs vary by location.

This varies by location, but every Tim Hortons offers its team members comprehensive training, scholarship opportunities, and incentive programs for great service. And since Tim’s is pretty much everywhere, you can add “conveniently located” under perks as well.

Social/environmental responsibility

Each Tim Hortons restaurant is active within its local community. The company supports kids' and community sports programs, poppy drives near Remembrance Day, food bank initiatives, and tons of other worthy causes. There’s the famous Camp Day in June, where coffee sales go to support the Tim Horton Children's Foundation and the camps for underprivileged kids that they run every summer. Selling Smile Cookies is another way Tim’s gives back, using the proceeds from the sale of these treats to help fund charities, hospitals, and community programs across Canada and the US.
