Invites applications for the position of:

Area Operations Supervisor - Student Transportation Services of York Region

Exempt Level 6 - $69,834 to $88,679 per annum

Two (2) Permanent Full-Time Positions Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manager of Student Transportation Services, the Area Operations Supervisor plans and administers student transportation services within York Region. The Area Operations Supervisor directly manages and leads a team of Transportation Planners, providing guidance and support to ensure safe, on-time, and efficient school transportation, addressing any operational challenges or issues that may arise in transportation operations promptly and efficiently.

Major Responsibilities:

Provide leadership to the Transportation Planners to ensure optimal, customer-service focused transportation services.

Identify areas of concern, assist in consultation with school boards, and propose recommendations to the Manager of Student Transportation Services of York Region.

Coordinate with internal and external partners to ensure operations and decisions are consistent throughout Student Transportation Services of York Region.

Monitor and evaluate team performance, providing feedback when required.

Analyze and recommend route, stop, and run changes that increase efficiency and reduce cost, as well as key performance indicators to monitor route performance.

Ensure compliance with Board policies by recommending changes to non-transportation zones.

Assist in the completion of school bus operator audits, ensuring compliance with established policies, procedures, and contractual obligations.

Address service-related issues, safety matters, and escalations in partnership with Transportation Planners, the Safety Analyst, and our service collaborators.

Respond to parent and school inquiries/concerns regarding routes, stop location, student safety, etc.

Suggest enhancements to internal departmental processes aimed at boosting staff efficiency and improving service standards for stakeholders.

Participate in the creation of reports for internal purposes, the joint-board consortium, school boards, and the Ministry of Education (MOE). Coordinate the completion of the annual routing simulation required by the MOE.

Implement the summer school transportation programs in collaboration with the Student Transportation Services of York Region Business Analyst, school bus vendors, and Board staff.

Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Student Transportation Services.Qualifications and Experience: A three-year degree or diploma from a university or community college in business administration, transportation planning, or related discipline.

A minimum of five years of experience in student transportation.Skills and Competencies: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in Bus Planner Pro routing software.

Previous supervisory experience would be considered an asset.
