Summer Literacy Transition Teacher

Ready, Set, Go

Locations:

Assumption College School, Holy Trinity Catholic High School, St. Johns College

The Summer Literacy Transition Teacher will provide instruction during a three-day summer literacy experience for Grade 8 students who will be transitioning to secondary school in September 2022. Focus will be placed on key literacy components, development of essential learning skills and orientation support.

Effective Dates : August 23, 2024 - Team Planning (8:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m.)

August 26 to August 28, 2024 Program Delivery (8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. daily)

*Subject to annual budget approval and/or annual system organization and/or sufficient program enrollment.

Qualifications:

Basic* :Intermediate and Senior Divisions

Experience :Two (2) years successful teaching experience or equivalent

Other : Demonstrated understanding of the three-part lessons and key literacy component;

Demonstrated understanding of the school policies and procedures; and

Strong interpersonal skills and organizational skills

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Summer Literacy Transition Teacher will be responsible for co-planning and delivering lessons that integrate key literacy components (i.e., asking questions, making connections, visualizing, activating prior knowledge and synthesizing). The Summer Literacy Transition teacher will develop activities to support secondary school transition with focus placed on learning skills (i.e., self-advocacy, self-regulation, exam writing, creating a study schedule, time management, social media education and conflict resolution) and introduce site specific orientation opportunities related to D2L, lockers, timetables, classrooms, attendance, library, buses, and uniforms. Reading, writing and oral communication skills and strategies will be a focus within an integrated program in order to support students with the transition from elementary to secondary school.
