Supervisor of Accounting

Permanent Full-time Position (1.0 FTE) - 35 Hours Per Week - Monday to Friday - 12 months

Salary range: $74,382.00 - $84,525.00

Start date: Immediately; Duration: Permanent

Reporting to the Manager of Financial Services, the Supervisor of Accounting will provide leadership to the Accounting staff, along with financial reporting and assistance with budget preparations. The Accounting Department is responsible for the Boards accounting, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Cash Receipts, Charitable Donations, School Funds, and Tax Remittances

Key Job Requirements :

Duties will include, but are not limited to the following:

Accounting: Supervise and train Accounting staff.

Review invoices for adherence to policy and procedures and accurate account coding.

Ensure account analysis, bank reconciliations, adjusting journal entries etc. are completed on a monthly basis and maintain the General Ledger for month-end reporting.

Responsible for year-end preparation to adjusted Trial Balance including Account analysis.

Process Accounts Receivable invoices and manage collections.

Monitor Cash Receipts, including preparation of deposits, Donation Receipts and Community Use Transactions.

Liaise with Vendors, especially where contentious.

Liaise and provide training to School Principals, Secretaries, and other staff regarding Budgets, Accounting Software, School Banking issues and Board Purchasing Policies and Procedures.School Banking:

Monitor Quarterly Reports submitted by the schools.

Complete Year End Consolidated Summary

Reporting: Prepare quarterly Board Expenditure Statements.

Ensure monthly Expenditure Statements are available for schools and departments.

Monitor capital budgets and expenditures.

Facilitate various financial reports for Senior Staff, schools and departments and provide analysis and reconciliation.

Oversee the administration of the Boards Partnership and Priority Funding (PPFs).

Collaborate and facilitate with Facility Services on any capital funding and reporting requirements.

Budget Preparation and Monitoring: Process budget transfers and reallocations.

Provide guidance regarding budget/financial considerations from schools, departments and Board staff.

Other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Financial Services.Qualifications : Post-secondary degree/diploma in Business or Finance, with a CPA designation, or working towards a CPA designation will be considered.

A minimum of five (5) years of experience in financial accounting, preferably in a public sector environment. Knowledge of PSAB and school board accounting will be considered an asset.

Superior Analytical skills with above average aptitude for figures with accuracy and attention to detail.

Proven supervisory skills with experience in a unionized environment and the ability to provide positive leadership to staff and contribute to the establishment of an effective team.

Excellent planning and organizational skills with experience in the effective management of multiple projects with similar deadlines.

Exceptional interpersonal skills to enable incumbent to work in a team environment and to function effectively with administrators, managers, staff, outside agencies, and others.

Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work independently.

Demonstrated proficiency in a computerized environment and in the use of a variety of software applications; including but not limited to, related applications (K212, EFIS, ISYS, E-Base, Microsoft Office with highly proficient use of Excel and Access).

Knowledge and understanding of related BHNCDSB policies, procedures, Ministry Funding Regulations.

Demonstrated ability to handle matters requiring diplomacy, sensitivity, and confidentiality.
