EASTBROOK ELEMENTARY is hiring! We are seeking applicants for a combined role, of Learning Support Teacher (LST) and English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher, to join our team of dedicated educators. Success in this role will require a specific set of knowledge skills and abilities to support our mosaic of English as an Additional Language Learners (EAL) at Eastbrook Elementary. We are a proudly diverse and inclusive school. Our educators are passionate, and serve approximately 465 students, ranging from kindergarten to grade 6. Our students are from families in our local community, as well as world locations, making our school a rich environment of different cultures, backgrounds, and experiences. LSTs act as a support and resource for teachers . This role assists with the implementation of school-wide comprehensive learning support programing. Working with our multidisciplinary teams of professionals, including Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Behavior Consultants, Psychologists, and agencies from other ministries is an integral part of this role. The educator we are seeking must have an excellent understanding of school-based and divisional continuums of supports and services, expertise in intervention/collaborative response models, case coordination and management, Level B testing, and Individual Program Planning coordination. Experience with early learning, literacy and numeracy are assets. Supporting our EAL community of students requires a strong aptitude for facilitating EAL learner development, of social and academic language to grow socially confident, academically ready, independent users of English who are recognized for their unique identities and strengths. Teachers working with EAL students are a source of incidental learning in the community and will act as a positive role model to promote inclusive attitudes of diversity and equality. This role directly influences learners to develop in a way that will assist with building confidence, forming, and growing friendships, expressing oneself, developing interests.

Job Duties: support an educational environment based on the values of diversity, equality and inclusion;

provide direct support and/or intervention, and resources in a precise and personalized manner to maximize student learning achievement;

support staff in understanding and responding to individual student strengths and needs for improved student achievement and well-being;

work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals to identify needs of individual EAL learners;

share information between partners to provide a coordinated and comprehensive approach to support student achievement and well-being;

assist student(s) by providing clarification of instructions, support in reading text, verifying concept checking keywords, or providing sentence stems or process language to help learners articulate their thoughts;

adapt and make content accessible for individual students by using techniques such as text enhancement to draw attention to important language features, provide visuals to build context, create scaffolded tasks to assist in understanding and processing content, create consolidation tasks,

use various assessment tools to evaluate and communicate student progress;

meet with parents or guardians regarding their childs learning status; and

Education and Certifications: Bachelor of Education & valid Alberta Teaching Certificate Considered an asset but not a requirement : Masters degree in education or special education, experience, education, or training in teaching English as an additional language (EAL).
