Theatre Technician Casual Part-Time

The Michael J Fox Theatre is a busy, 613 seat roadhouse facility serving the entire Metro Vancouver area. Attached to Burnaby South Secondary School, and owned by the Burnaby School District, the Theatre is operated by the Michael J Fox Theatre Society.

The Theatre Technician will work for the Michael J Fox Theatre Society with casual part-time responsibilities.

The work involved is skilled, specialized technical work involving the operation of stage lighting, audio, video projection, and other stage equipment as necessary to meet the needs of Theatre clientele. The Technician provides technical advice and services to a varied clientele which includes the host school, School District, and a large group of external clients. Supervision and safe operation of any or all of the Theatres systems is required. The Technician enjoys a high degree of independence of action and judgment all the while ensuring client satisfaction and supporting the aims of the Society.

The candidate will be responsible for: Supporting event installations and operation, operating equipment as required by the event.

Providing clients with necessary advice or assistance regarding their presentations at the Theatre.This may include creating or modifying lighting, audio, video or other stagecraft designs as well as accommodating outside systems brought in by clients.

Assisting in evaluation of systems, fixtures and equipment for purposes of maintenance, overhaul, replacement or upgrade.

Maintaining records of work performed and engaging in related work as required.The ideal candidate will have: Completed a college-level technical diploma or the equivalent of at least three years full-time experience following completion of secondary education preference for a minimum of five years full-time employment in the areas of work described above.

Thorough knowledge of the methods, best practices, techniques, tools and equipment employed in stage lighting, audio, video projection and counterweight rigging systems.

Competency on ETC ION Xe20 lighting consoles with an EOS fader wing.

Ability to work with lighting designers to program cue-intensive visuals for lighting within reasonable time-constraints.

Thorough knowledge of all related hazards and safety precautions and practices.

Ability to perform applicable maintenance work as described above.

Ability to work at height, and comfort working on ladders.

Ability to work from plans, drawings and sketches and the ability to create same when required.

Ability to communicate effectively with clients and assist them in achieving their goals.

Willing to work flexible hours any day of the week

Willingness to learn and adapt to the requirements of a multicultural client base.

LPEC certification and First Aid Level 1 or better would also be useful.Application Details: Wage is $30-35/hour
