ASSOCIATED PROFESSIONAL POSITION AVAILABLE

24-004 A temporary 1.0 FTE School Psychologist position at Inclusive Education , effective September 04, 2024 through June 30, 2025. School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The District also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The District serves over 5,500 students in 18 schools. Campbell River is a scenic, oceanfront community framed by extensive waterfront, west coast forests and snow-capped mountains. The area is renowned for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities such as skiing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, hiking, golf, and endless opportunities to experience nature. School District 72 operates on the territories of the Laichwiltach, Klahoose and Komoks First Nations and we honour these relationships. We also respect and value the relationships with the Homalco First Nations, all other First Nations, Mtis, and Inuit peoples who reside in these territories. Qualifications, Knowledge, and Experience:

Relevant university qualifications;

A comprehensive understanding of current educational practices outlined in the BC Ministry of Education documents;

Committed to the craft of teaching, best practices, and standards of professional practice;

Excellent interpersonal, collaborative, communicative, and problem-solving skills;

Flexible, adaptive, and nimble; and,

A commitment to professional development and growth. The successful applicant will possess the following: A Masters degree in school/educational psychology with a focus on school psychology and qualifications that meet the standard for membership in the British Columbia Association of School Psychologists; or registration with the College of Psychologists, with special training in school psychology;

Training and recent experience in providing psycho-educational assessments for students K-12. (Level C as per Ministry guidelines);

Knowledge and skills in the identification procedures and program planning for students with special needs including autism, other developmental disorders, learning disabilities, challenges in behaviour and mental health;

Proven experience in the development of positive, collaborative and consultative working relationships with students, parents, colleagues and other school staff;

The ability to write clear and effective reports with appropriate school based recommendations;

The ability to provide school based in-service to teachers and other staff members;

Current knowledge and strategies for the teaching of literacy and numeracy skills to students experiencing learning difficulties;

The ability to assist school personnel in the writing of effective IEPs;

Be a strong advocate for students with special needs and students with different learning styles;

The ability to use technology effectively and efficiently; and

A valid BC Drivers License and appropriate means of transportation. All SD72 teachers will have a demonstrated understanding and commitment to teaching practice that embodies:

an inquiry-based and collaborative approach to the delivery of the BC Curriculum;

Social/Emotional Learning and an in-depth knowledge of the BC Mental Health Framework;

the incorporation of the First Nations Principles of Learning;

diversity, inclusion, and equity;

support for the growth and development of individual learners through differentiated learning techniques; and,
