Salary Range: $50,000 to $107,000 (range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance to the collective agreement)
Effective Date: September 1, 2024, until not later than June 30, 2026

extensive academic training, professional preparation, and qualifications in teaching all areas of this assignment
knowledge of, and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Educations current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as applied to all areas of this assignment
valid BC professional teaching certificate (BCCT)
Masters degree or diploma in the education of the visually impaired
qualifications as described for a Learning Assistance teacher
regular classroom teaching experience
experience in teaching students with visual impairments, preferred
knowledge of eligibility criteria for Ministry of Education designation
knowledge of Orientation and Mobility components within the school environment
ability to conduct a functional vision assessment
ability in developing CBIEPs that address the nine areas of the Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC): assistive technology, career education, compensatory skills, independent living skills, orientation and mobility, recreation and leisure, self-determination, sensory efficiency and social interaction.
ability to adapt or modify classroom curriculum, instruction or learning resources to meet the needs of students with visual impairments
knowledge of, and the ability to make appropriate recommendations for, visual aids and assistive technology (e.g. video magnifiers, UEB braille code, braille notetakers, screen readers, refreshable braille displays, computers, iPads, tablets and braille printers)
knowledge of adjudication guidelines for exam writing
experience in providing direct service for specific skill development
ability in collaborating with classroom teachers, teacher assistants, and district personnel
