We invite applications for the temporary position of: 1.0 FTE Grades 8-12 Prep Program Teacher Located at G.P. Vanier Secondary

The Prep Program Teacher will work as a key member of the Inclusive Education Team to support students with low incidence challenges and Learning Support Teachers, classroom Teachers, program Teachers, Education Assistants, the District Low Incidence Team, and parent/guardian(s).Education/Coursework requirements:

Degree in Special Education (i.e. post-secondary degree or diploma program with special education concentration). Completed coursework designed to meet the diverse needs of exceptional learners in the areas of students with special needs, learning disabilities, strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum, differentiated instruction and inclusive teaching practices. Minimum 3-5 years recent teaching experience, K-12.The successful candidate will demonstrate: Working knowledge, supported by course work and experience, of the special needs arising from autism spectrum disorder, moderate to profound intellectual disabilities, chronic health impairment, and students with dependent handicaps. Ability to design and implement programs to meet specific student needs. Ability to develop and instruct functional and lifeskills curriculum including independent living and employment readiness skills. Ability to plan and implement social communication and executive functioning programs. Ability to design and implement behaviour management plans and strategies. Ability to develop support strategies using functional assessment practices and to develop, implement, monitor and report on I.E.P.s. Ability to work collaboratively with classroom teachers to design or implement instructional strategies or adapt/modify instructional content or materials. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and liaise with school administrators, parent/guardian(s), community professionals and the Student Services Low Incidence Team. Ability to assume a leadership role with both teachers and paraprofessional staff and to provide training and problem-solving. Knowledge and ability to implement computer programs with special education technology to support student achievement. Demonstrate ability to facilitate the work and schedule of education assistants.Our educational team is committed to engaging learners to develop creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication and social competencies.
