Rapid Response Northern School Team Member - Teacher

OSSTF or ETFO

The Rapid Response Northern School Team (RRNST) is composed of highly-trained and experienced KPDSB school board employees. This team includes certified educators, principals/administrators, and related positions. Members of the team have demonstrated skills in areas such as mental health, literacy, numeracy, outdoor education, and special education. The RRNST is mobilized and assigned rapidly in order to respond to urgent requests made by remote First Nations communities so community schools remain open and staff are supported to deliver programs and support to students during or following community crisis. The team also provides ongoing educational support to schools in First Nations communities with the purpose of improving education and well-being outcomes for Indigenous students.

Qualifications Education & Experience Must be in Good Standing with the Ontario College of Teachers

Special Education, Literacy, and/or Numeracy Specialists would be an asset

The ability to speak a local Indigenous language would be an asset but is not required

Is confident and knowledgeable in preparing and presenting professional development using various formats e.g. technology, in-person

Must be able to travel to rural First Nations communities for extended periods of time (i.e. one week is the average

length of deployment)

School leadership and/or mentorship experience

Demonstrated experience working with Elders and awareness of cultural teachings

Experience working with First Nations students and communities

Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural skills to work in a First Nations environment

Understanding and experience using a trauma-sensitive approach to learning and developing relationships

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team of professionals

Political acumenThis position will be filled in accordance with the current ETFO and OSSTF Collective Agreements.
