Grande Prairie and District Catholic Schools is seeking an Addictions
Counsellor to provide services to students in a school setting. The
successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work
autonomously with minimal supervision and be capable of building relationships
with students. The candidate should have experience in dealing with
children and youth addiction and other factors such as trauma, suicidal ideations,
and healthy relationships.
Duties in part:
Conducts student screening and assessments to address concerns as
appropriate.
Develops, coordinates, and implements treatment plans to support
student needs.
Monitors and evaluates student progress and achievement of
recovery goals.
Provides individual and group counselling to improve health and
promote personal development, recovery, and harm reduction.
Create prevention materials to present in classrooms as requested
Establishes and maintains effective communication with school
team, colleagues and other health care practitioners concerning documentation,
treatment plans, progress, and discharge.
Provides crisis counselling and conflict resolution strategies.
Maintains appropriate records and provides reports and statistical
information as required.
Collaborates with inter-disciplinary professional(s) about student
plans and goals in order to better facilitate recovery.
Makes day-to-day decisions for student at risk in treatment
including self-harm, aggression or violence towards others or resistant
behavior.
Provides recommendations to inter-disciplinary professional(s) as
appropriate.
Refers out to community agencies as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, may be considered.
Or
Bachelor of Social Work degree with experience with Addictions
is preferred. Registration with Alberta College of Social Workers (RSW).
