CLASSROOM & STUDENT SUPERVISOR

2023-2024 school year (temporary)

Pay rate: $133.27 per day + 4% vacation pay

6 hour/day maximum (excluding 30 min unpaid lunch break) Under the direction of the Principal/Vice-Principal, the Classroom & Student Supervisor will supervise and support students when teachers are absent ensuring a safe and secure environment at all times. The Supervisor will also create and coordinate safe and enjoyable activities for students while cooperating with school staff regarding safety protocols and plans. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Be available on short notice to replace absent teachers on an emergency basis where no qualified teacher is available (a full day is 6 hours excluding lunch, a partial day is less than 6 hours with pro-rated pay rate)

Supervise elementary and/or secondary students in the classroom and other indoor and outdoor spaces ensuring a safe, secure and engaging learning environment at all times

Follow instructions left by classroom teacher and/or the Principal/Vice-Principal including the creation and coordination of safe and enjoyable activities for students

Manage minor student discipline issues and escalate more serious matters to the Principal/Vice-Principal

Promote positive attitudes towards and encourage enthusiasm for learning

Demonstrate effective problem-solving skills, patience and flexibility

Cooperate with school staff regarding safety protocols, emergency plans and school procedures

Be aware of specific students medical/behaviour situations and keep such information strictly confidential QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & ABILITIES : Successful completion of Grade 12 education or equivalent is required

Post-secondary education relating to children and youth is preferred

Prior experience (paid or volunteer) working with children is a strong asset

Ability to follow instructions and use initiative

Strong communication, judgement and decision making skills when interacting with students

Ability to read and understand student safety and/or behaviour plans and alert Principal where necessary

Maintain strict confidentiality and privacy of student information

Possess an understanding of and a willingness to support the mission of a Catholic School system

Creative, enthusiastic, patient and responsible team player

First Aid, CPR, NVCI, BMS training is an asset
