Herald School Probationary Middle School Specialized Teacher An opportunity exists for a caring, dedicated, and resilient teacher to join the Herald School community as a full-time probationary teacher in the Division's Specialized Programs for the start of the 2024-2025 school year. The teacher will be responsible for programming for students with specialized medical, cognitive, and/or behavioural needs. The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge, skill and a commitment to: Programming for students with diverse and complex needsAn understanding of complex communication needs and the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (e.g., Proloquo2Go, NovaChat)Knowledge of specialized strategies and supports (e.g., Structured Teaching Model) An understanding of, and an ability to implement inclusive practices, differentiated instruction, and life skills programmingExperience implementing a life skills curriculum that focuses on functional literacy, numeracy and adaptive / daily living skillsLeading a team of classroom educational assistants Proactively planning for challenging behaviour through a positive behaviour support lensA deep understanding of the Collaborative Response ModelProfessional learning specific to inclusion and specialized programming (e.g., Low Arousal Approach, Level B Assessment Training, SIVA, etc.)The successful candidate must be aligned with the values and vision of Herald School and Medicine Hat Public Division. Preference will be given to candidate with a strong background in inclusive education and/or proven experience in working with students with diverse and complex needs. Herald School is a Kindergarten through Grade 6 school, hosts the MHPSD Specialized Middle School Program and has a population of approximately 170 students.
