PRE SCHOOL EDUCATOR RESOURCE SERVICES - DEAF PROGRAM

One 1.0 Permanent position (Contract rated under the Provincial Schools Authority) A rewarding career awaits you with the Ministry of Education, Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch, Resource Services Department. We require a Preschool Educator Deaf Program to join our team. You will provide in-home educational/developmental program, services and support to families of Deaf/hard of hearing children from infancy to school age.Supports provided include: information to parents regarding language and literacy; mathematics; Deaf culture; educational placement(s); teaching and assessment strategies to enhance child development in areas such as language (American Sign Language and English) and literacy acquisition/development, and cultural/social/emotional growth. Experiences and knowledge of early childhood development will assist you, provide supports and liaison with other department staff/community/resources/ professionals. What we are looking for: QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Certification of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers;

Candidates who hold or in the process of obtaining a Temporary Certificate of Qualification and Registration will be considered;

Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing or currently engaged in completing the requirements for the specialist qualification;

Fluency in American Sign Language and English;

Primary division qualification.

ABILITIES: Ability to use ASL as a language of instruction;

Ability to write and present educational reports;

Understanding of principles of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education and spoken language principles and how it is related to play/inqiry based approach;

Understanding of math assessment, teaching and learning strategies related to early math development;

Understanding of ASL and English assessment, teaching and learning strategies related to early language and literacy development;

Ability to support and instruct adults (e.g., parents and care-givers) and very young children;

Ability to support families using knowledge of developmental milestones including those of: literacy, language (ASL and English), mathematics, well-being, belonging and contributing and language acquisition;

Ability to develop individual family education, summary reports and transition to school plans;

Ability to support families who have children with multiple exceptionalities;

Knowledge of and ability to use a range of curricula for early years in home based instruction including Early Mathematics, Early Literacy, CAROLINA, Well-being for early learners, etc;

Knowledge and understanding of delivering language and literacy programs using ASL and English; Understand and experience in providing support and resources related to First Nation, Mtis and Inuit and diverse groups in home-visiting program.

Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team;

Excellent observation and assessment skills;

Excellent interpersonal/communication skills;

Ability to stay and travel by air overnight to specified areas based on assigned caseload.
