Urban Academy is currently inviting dedicated, team-oriented teachers to apply for our Senior School Mathematics Teacher position for the 2024-2025 school year. Please indicate recent professional development and extracurricular experience you possess as part of your candidacy for this position.

Faculty are required to support the schools full program including extracurriculars in the areas of athletics, interest-based and academic clubs. Faculty are expected to attend and engage in collaborative staff meetings and to serve on committees if required.

Expectations and Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following:

Curriculum:

Plan and deliver an engaging and interactive Mathematics program for Senior School students

Demonstrate active commitment to student learning and success; be able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.

Develop subject-specific standards to inform teaching, evaluation, and reporting based on BC curriculum.

Teach for understanding using a standards-based assessment model, utilizing competency-based assessment and instruction as well as strong formative and summative assessment strategies.

Make relevant and innovative use of multiple technologies in the classroom, to enhance teaching and learning

Demonstrate commitment to culturally sustaining teaching practices: infuse diverse voices and perspectives in planning and delivery of learning experiences, including Indigenous, local, and global world views

Build a strong rapport with students and supporting the students social and emotional development

Assessment

Utilize outcome-based formative and summative assessment strategies to evaluate growth in students acquisition of Mathematics and provide regular, constructive feedback to the students on their progress.

Maintain effective ongoing assessment of student learning in order to provide clear feedback to students and their parents;

Communication

Communicate consistently and professionally with students, parents, faculty and other stakeholders about student needs and growth

Collaboration

Collaborate with colleagues to align planning, instruction, and assessment.

Participate actively in collaborative team meetings Practice professionalism through ongoing professional development, reflection, and continuous improvement.

Contribute to the extra-curricular program in the school

Provide supervision for students during recess, lunch, and after school, and occasional class coverage, as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

All applicants must possess:

Post-secondary degree in Education.

Valid BC Teaching Certificate, or maintain the ability to obtain one. Please indicate your Teaching Certificate Number # on your application (L or J followed by 6 digits)

Canadian residency and legally entitled to work in Canada

Knowledge of the Grade 8 - 12 BC Math curriculum and Ministry requirements for teaching

Strong knowledge of educational IT applications

Understanding of pedagogical trends through continued reading and relevant recent professional development.

Strong classroom management abilities.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Collaboration and interpersonal skills, with a particular emphasis on collaborative planning and assessment.

Superior knowledge of curriculum and teaching and learning, specifically when planning educational strategies.

Strong commitment to student learning and success; being able to understand the needs of students while engaging them as active learners in the classroom.

Superior EQ skills in self-awareness, self-management, social agility, impact and influence.

Energy and dynamism to work in a highly focused environment with students keen to succeed.
