TEMPORARY SECONDARY SCHOOL TUTOR

Assignment:

The Ontario Ministry of Education has identified achievement of learning outcomes in core academic skills of literacy and numeracy as priorities. Literacy and numeracy tutoring programs have shown to be effective and are helpful in engaging learners through more personalized connections.

Schools have submitted proposals to access funding for school-based tutoring programs supporting students in Grade 9 through 12 who would benefit from targeted and precise support in the acquisition of specific skills in mathematics and literacy.

REPORTS TO: Administrator

DURATION: Based on student need

REMUNERATION: $42.86/hr (inclusive of holiday and vacation pay) as per article 7.02.

LOCATION: Owen Sound District Secondary School.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

In consultation with teachers the school will provide tutoring programs targeting acquisition of specific skills including using pre-and-post data evidence to support impact reporting.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible to the Administrator to provide tutoring and mentoring for students.

Work collaboratively with classroom teacher(s) to support students with a variety of learning, and academic needs.

Assist students with managing course expectations and accessing their learning; and,

Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: A teacher in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers.

Intermediate/senior qualifications required in the course subject area (English or Math)ASSETS: Strong communication skills;

An understanding of effective learning, teaching and assessment strategies; and,

Excellent leadership, communication and organizational skills.JOB REQUIREMENT S: Eligible to work in Canada.
