This full-time permanent position is with an Equal Opportunity Employer and offers a wide range of assignments. The Board operates 2 administration buildings and 20 schools (18 elementary, 2 secondary) in 13 communities covering 7851 square kilometers for the welfare of 4,580 pupils. RESPONSIBILITIES: In collaboration with the Superintendent of Education and the Mental Health and Wellness Lead, the Social Worker will supervise the School Attendance Counsellors and support schools with their counselling needs.

THE SOCIAL WORKER WILL: Support counselling staff with student cases;

Provide direct feedback to counselling staff;

Assess student needs and support their social and emotional needs;

Provide direct counseling service to student in designated schools;

Connecting with community and internal partners in interdisciplinary teams to support students of promise;

Implement evidence based programs in selected schools and run groups that support students;

Provide direct counselling to students referred through the school administration;

Coordinate social work services and patient referrals to local community services;

Participates and occasionally presents at teacher meetings, assemblies, etc.

Remains available for any extra support schools need in their safety planning.QUALIFICATIONS : Masters degree in Social Work;

Registration in the appropriate professional college as required;

Minimum of 3 years experience working with children, youth and their families in a counselling position, preferably in a school setting;

Experience with CBT and solution-focused therapy;

Assist training and BMS certification would be an asset;

Excellent communication, coordination and organizational skills;

Demonstrated ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team environment;

Strong management and supervision skills;

Proven strong interpersonal and leadership skills;

Knowledge of staff evaluation and development processes;

Excellent presentation skills, including effective use of computer technology;

Demonstrated ability to meet timelines and to produce exemplary system-level materials;

Thorough knowledge of current theories and practices related to Mental Health;
