Permanent Computer Network Technician The Avon Maitland District School Board is inviting applications for the position of Computer Network Technician at the Learning Resource Centre in Clinton, Ontario.
The regional network technician position requires knowledge of data communication networks, school level LAN, wireless network topologiesand protocols, network operating systems and management software, telecommunications, switches, IP management. This position requires providing school technical support; therefore, the individual must have a vehicle and a valid driver's license in good standing and be willing to travel.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Designing requirements for LANs including hardware and software requirements in a Microsoft, and VMware environment. Setup, configure and manage VMware installations with Windows servers, peripheral equipment and related software.
Creating and installing server and lab/workstation images
Setup of local area networks
Implementation of security standards and procedures
Administering, optimizing and troubleshooting the local area networks (LANs) and devices including servers, computer workstations and peripheral equipment, iPads, Chromebooks, printers, photocopiers, MacBooks and mobile labs.
Managing data backups and performing disaster recovery operations as required.
Providing problem-solving support regarding network issues for network users, IT team and site contacts.
Administering user accounts, group policies; and training site administrators in limited network administration.
Work with the central team to maintain and administer management systems like Microsoft SCCM/MEC, Intune, Google management Console (GMC).
Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
Other related duties as assigned.Job Specifications and Requirements: Completion of two year community college computer technical training program plus a minimum of two years related working experience with LAN environments (including experience with switches) and network operating systems or combination of experience, education and training that is considered equivalent.
Industry standard certifications in Microsoft Technologies with primary focus on Microsoft File Services and Active Directory Services 2019.
Working technical knowledge of current operating systems and technologies in Windows, Apple and Chromebook environments. Familiarity with VMware is important.
Understanding of network concepts such as TCP/IP and other network protocols, remote management, and applications.
Some experience with Microsoft Endpoint management.
The ability to problem-solve, prioritize and multi-task in a busy environment and meet deadlines.
Proven professional, interpersonal and oral communication skills, and demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
Willingness to travel to school locations.
Hours of Work: 40 Hours per week, 12 months
Rate of Pay : Level 6 of ESSP Collective Agreement plus Benefits with OTIP and Pension with OMERS
Pension Plan: Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS)
Health & Dental Benefits: Extended and Supplementary Health, Paramedical Services, Dental, including Orthodontics, Out of Province/Country and Health Care Spending Account
