Position Overview:

The Director of Wellbeing and Pluralism provides leadership, direction and support for the development and delivery of transformational wellbeing and pluralism programming and learning across the College. The Director oversees Wellbeing and Pluralism leads in the Prep and Upper Schools and collaborates closely with the academic program leaders and school-based leadership teams, teachers and advisers with principal focus on realizing the student-facing objectives of the Colleges wellbeing and pluralism strategies. This whole school role provides the leadership to build our communitys understanding of wellbeing and pluralism and to engage all constituents in the development and delivery of exemplary continuum of learning that encourages the physical, cognitive and social-emotional wellbeing of students SK-Year 12 and fosters a culture of inclusion, wellbeing and belonging.

The Director supports the Colleges progress towards goals set in its pluralism and wellbeing action plans, serving as a resource for and collaborator with colleagues leading that work both within and outside the areas of curriculum and student support, thereby contributing to an approach to wellbeing and pluralism that is aligned across the organization and ensuring efforts are well coordinated and mutually supportive. This role also represents the College and its wellbeing and pluralism work with external organizations and networks. The Director collaborates to ensure that all aspects of student wellbeing and pluralism programming are aligned with UCCs vision, mission, values and strategic directions, current research and best practice, as well as the standards of our external accrediting bodies (CAIS, IB and ON Ministry of Education) and relevant legislation. The Director is a member of the extended Program Senior Leadership Team (PSLT). Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development and Student Programming

Work closely and collaboratively with the Academic Dean, Head of the Prep and Head of Upper School to set annual goals and to ensure strategic and operational goals and direction of student wellbeing and pluralism programming align with the overall strategic operational goals of the College, including the established direction of wellbeing and pluralism;

Guided by the Colleges wellbeing framework and action plan, working with Prep and Upper Wellbeing leads, in collaboration with the academic and school-based leadership teams and engaging outside subject-matter expertise as appropriate, lead the development of student wellbeing programming, including the development of a wellbeing scope and sequence and relevant pedagogies;

Guided by the Colleges pluralism objectives and action plan, working with Prep and Upper Pluralism leads, in collaboration with the academic and school-based leadership teams and engaging outside subject-matter expertise as appropriate, support the development of culturally responsive and relevant pedagogy and a curriculum that addresses anti-oppression issues;

Energize and support faculty and staff in ensuring an understanding and the implementation of appropriate strategies and planning for diversity and the wellbeing of all students;

Collaborate to identify and develop signature student learning experiences focused on anti-oppression issues, social justice and wellbeing;

Establish partnerships with education specialists to support curriculum and professional development in wellbeing and the following pluralism areas: Indigenous reconciliation, anti-racism, anti-sexism, homophobia and transphobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism and ableism;

Support Pluralism leads and Assistant Heads in sustaining the ongoing operation of established student affinity and allyship groups, including the annual launch and ongoing training of faculty advisors, and in the development of new groups as needed;

Empower students to become leaders and act as agents of positive change within the school environment as well as in their respective communities;

Support Pluralism and Wellbeing leads in encouraging student initiatives that focus on taking meaningful action on wellbeing and various anti-oppression issues including via clubs and community service programming;

Support school-based leadership teams in the development of restorative justice processes;

Work with the Director of Boarding to establish programs reflecting the needs of the Boarding community.

Faculty and Staff Growth and Development

Provide leadership to Pluralism and Wellbeing leads, including hiring, training and development, determining mentoring and coaching needs, assigning and evaluating work, and providing constructive feedback for all team members;

Work in collaboration with the Academic Dean, Head of the Prep and Head of the Upper School and other leaders to develop a program of professional development for teachers that is responsive to program needs. Work in collaboration with the Vice Principal, People and Culture to consider staff professional development needs and opportunities;

Facilitate and/or organize the facilitation of employee professional development opportunities addressing wellbeing, Pluralism and anti-oppression issues;

Support individual employees in identifying appropriate professional development opportunities to meet their wellbeing and Pluralism learning goals;

Act as a Professional Learning Community (PLC) lead and facilitator.

College-wide Coordination and Leadership

Stay informed and current with research in education and collaborate in the ongoing development of exceptional teaching practices across the school (SK-12);

Communicate with parents, students, faculty and other key community constituents at events such as Program Information Evenings, Course Selection Evenings and Open Houses;

Continuously evaluate the success of student wellbeing and pluralism programming, developing appropriate indicators and mechanisms to measure and track success and responding appropriately to make improvements where necessary. Conduct student needs assessments and program evaluation to identify opportunities for change, and develop new/revised program elements to address;

Develop collaborative relationships with key roles including members of the Senior Leadership Team, the Director of Academics, Director of the Wernham West Centre for Learning and Student Services and Assistant Heads to support the Colleges wellbeing and pluralism objectives;

Participate as a member of relevant school-based committees including SSAC, the Upper School Student Disciplinary Council, Prep Program Team and the Colleges Pluralism Response Committee;

Act as a resource/support to individual employees and business departments (e.g. Communication, People and Culture) on an as-needed basis in relation to Pluralism and Wellbeing priorities;

Participate as a member of the extended Program Senior Leadership Team, working with that group to explore opportunities to integrate the Colleges work in Pluralism and Wellbeing;

Foster connections with other schools that are part of our professional network, including CIS, CAIS and IB, through means such as network calls and meetings to share and collaborate on wellbeing, diversity, equity, inclusion, justice and belonging best practices;

Working with the Academic Dean, ensure the College fulfills its commitments to established partnerships with the IB in the areas of wellbeing, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the DP Pilot Systems Transformation Pathway;

Work in collaboration with the Wellbeing and Pluralism leads and school-based leadership teams to identify appropriate opportunities for parent education and facilitate or co-facilitate the training and learning of parent groups, including the Parents Organization, related to Pluralism and Wellbeing.Other duties

Teach 1 or 2 courses;

Supervise an IB student project (Personal Project or Extended Essay) annually.

Experience, Knowledge and Competencies:

A master's degree in education or a related field is strongly preferred;

Ten years teaching experience with demonstrated progressive academic leadership experience in a high-performance school;

Deep knowledge of best practices in wellbeing and pluralism work required with specific certification/training an asset;

Evidence of a deep commitment to Wellbeing and Pluralism (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) in principle and practice;

Flexibility, efficiency, organizational, analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills and leadership qualities;

An empathic, strong, and collaborative leadership style with an ability to work with broad constituencies in an approachable and diplomatic manner;

Strong communication skills, including clear and compelling written and verbal skills, coupled with an inclination to listen and understand;

Knowledge of educational pedagogies with nuanced thinking about the educational and instructional program including but not limited to Anti-Oppressive, Anti-Racist and Decolonizing Pedagogy;

Willingness to adapt and change based on the unique and diverse needs of the students;

Commitment to honesty, justice, fairness and equity;

Humility and empathy, and a recognition of their ability to positively influence change;

Passion for the opportunity and responsibility to make a difference in their local and global communities;
