Superintendent/CEO of School District 22

The Opportunity

With the retirement of the incumbent, School District 22 (Vernon) is seeking an inclusive, visionary leader to join our vibrant community on the unceded ancestral territory of the Syilx Okanagan People. The work of a Superintendent presents a complex and exciting opportunity.

The Superintendent/CEO is the educational leader of the District. Overseeing all aspects of the District and reporting directly to the Board of Education, the Superintendent leads a team including the Secretary-Treasurer, Assistant Superintendent, and four Directors. The Core Values of the District are articulated in the Strategic Plan which highlights Student Success, Leadership Excellence, and Community Connections.

The Role

Working hand in hand with the Board of Education, Senior Staff, Rightsholder, partners, and community members, the successful candidate will have the following qualifications and related experiences: A minimum of a masters degree in a related field;

A strong background in educational leadership at the school and district level;

Commitment to, and experience with supporting the governance work of Trustees and a Board of Education;

A clear and deep personal vision of education for all students;

Demonstrates inclusive and compassionate leadership which builds cultures with a focus of success for all learners;

A proven track record that demonstrates an inquiry mindset and processes of evidence-informed decision making;

A deep commitment to positive relationships and building the capacity of all those with whom you work;

Experience in multiple media formats and a strong background in effective communications including public speaking;

Demonstration of a deep personal commitment to Truth and Reconciliation and partnerships with Indigenous communities;

Systems thinking which aligns structures and processes across the entire organization in support of a common vision; and

A collaborative decision maker who values and includes partners and community members. The Community

SD22 serves the communities of Vernon, Coldstream, Lavington, Lumby and Cherryville and is located in south-central British Columbia just 50 km north of Kelowna at the tip of Kalamalka Lake. The District serves 9200 students and has 14 elementary schools, 5 high schools and a staff of over 1100 employees.

The Okanagan is about the outdoors and connecting with nature. The region is known for warm weather, orchards, vineyards, and numerous recreation activities. Whether its golfing at Predator Ridge, skiing at Silver Star Mountain Resort, or walking, hiking, biking and relaxing around Kalamalka Lake, there is something for everyone and in all seasons.

Compensation

The anticipated annual salary range for this role is $228,472 to $253,858. When determining salary, years of education and a candidates range of experiences will be considered. Additional details would be discussed in a personal interview. SD22 also offers a comprehensive benefits package and pension.
