OUTDOOR CONNECTIONS TEACHER

Part-time (0.125 FTE) Term position

West Vancouver Schools District Program*

Effective September 3, 2024 until June 30, 2025The annual salary for a full-time teaching position ranges from $50,000 to $104,000, with placement on the range based on length of service and qualifications in accordance with the collective agreement. The salary will be prorated based on FTE. Required Qualifications and Experience

A part-time (0.125 FTE) teaching position is available within our WVS District and Academy Programs . This position is for one block of Outdoor Connections in the afternoon on Day 1.

The successful candidate must demonstrate the following: Experience in Outdoor Education and a passion for teaching in the outdoor environment;

Evidence of appropriate qualifications and experience in teaching Physical Health Education in a secondary context;

Experience in leading youth on outdoor trips, including kayaking, hiking, cross country skiing, sailing, snowshoeing and Outdoor Survival skills;

Wilderness First Aid Certificate and/or other Outdoor Training Certificates would be an asset;

Have a love for the outdoors and an understanding of Leave no Trace principles and environmental stewardship;

Flexible schedule with the willingness to teach later 3-4 times a month on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school hours;

Willingness to participate in two multi-day outdoor trips;

A willingness to work collaboratively with the Outdoor Connections Teacher to plan and deliver the program;

An ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies that can accommodate the learning needs of all types of learners;

A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment in the classroom and evidence of strong organization and classroom management skills;

Strong communication, organization and assessing student learning skills;

Hold a valid BC Teaching Certificate.
