Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Director of Facilities/ Designate, and under the daily guidance of other maintenance staff as assigned, the Labourer is responsible for providing unskilled services in any area of the department; and working as a member of a team to ensure the timely resolution of general district Facilities requirements, in accordance with applicable regulations, policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities: assists trades with a variety of facilities problems as required (e.g. carries materials, sweeps and cleans)

unloads, loads, transports and delivers furniture, equipment and materials to and from sites

assembles, disassembles and moves furniture when necessary (e.g. for examinations); removes and replaces damaged furniture; moves/ carries boxes or other school supplies

delivers and sets up folding tables and chairs; assists with loading, delivery and assembly of staging and lighting for school productions

performs minor maintenance duties and routine repairs (e.g. furniture, etc.)

cleans, checks/ confirms operational safety and performs routine maintenance on working equipment on a daily basis

cuts grass; clears, slashes and cuts brush and growth; performs winter clean-ups (e.g. raking)

salts, sands, clears ice and snow, sweeps, blows and removes general debris and branches from grounds, catchment basins, storm sewer areas, parking lots and sidewalks

responds to operational emergency situations(including off-hours calls)

operates basic maintenance tools (e.g. hammer, saw, drill, weedeaters, lawn mower)

performs other comparable duties as assigned which are within the area of knowledge and skills required by the job descriptionThe full job description is available on Inside45 for internal staff. Required Qualifications and Experience: Grade 10

Valid BC Drivers License

Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions (in English)

Good interpersonal and communication (oral ) skills
