Jack Hulland Elementary is a Kindergarten to Grade 7 neighbourhood school aiming to foster a welcoming, safe, and inclusive educational environment; one where each student is supported to meet their full potential.The successful candidate Learning Assistance Teacher will assume responsibility for: Implementation, ongoing development and regular review of Individual Education Plans (IEP)
Delivery of individualized instruction in one-to-one and small group settings for these students
Leading Educational Assistants in their support roles
Facilitating student integration into classes and the wider school community as is appropriateQUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience: Bachelor of Education or equivalent with specialization in elementary education
Undergraduate and/or post graduate course work in child development, special education and individualized instruction
Recent teaching experience and/or pre-service practicum teaching experience in Grades K to 7
Teaching experience and/or pre-service practicum experience working with student Individual Educational Plans and Behavioural Support Plans
Willingness to complete additional in-service professional learning
Additional Teaching Qualifications in ADHD and Autism is an asset
Additional Teaching Qualifications in Special Education is an assetDESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:
Candidates should have and may be assessed on their: Successful implementation of effective instructional practices when working with student Individual Educational Plans and Behavioural Support Plans
The ability to apply assessment for, as and of student learning within an IEP
Ability to provide positive intervention in a developmentally responsive way
Strong communication and interpersonal skills working with students, Educational Assistants, families, administration, other staff members, and consultants
Ability to support targeted intervention with students by utilizing diagnostic assessments and scaffold interventions based on data
Ability to work as a member of a professional team and willingness to participate in the total school program
Knowledge of and sensitivity to the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations people and a culturally diverse student populationADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must hold a Teacher Certification in another Canadian province/territory first;
Successful applicants will be required to undergo a Criminal Record Check including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
