YOTBU LTO - AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD) TEACHER

Effective: Immediately - Open ended

Note: This is a Central Program that may be moved to another school at any time,

based on new and emerging systemneeds

**Must hold Special Education qualifications**

The ASD Specialized Life Skills Teacher will provide direct teaching in a congregated class and resource/withdrawal support to secondary students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

The Successful Candidate will: Design, implement and teach an Alternative Curriculum program for students with ASD with a particular focus on self-regulation, communication, social skills, pre-vocational/vocational skills, and skills of daily living;

Develop and implement Individual Education Plans and other pertinent documentation;

Develop and implement Pathways to Independence Plans (PIP);

Assess, evaluate and report on student progress;

Collaborate and work closely with Parents/Guardians, Administrators, Department Head of Special education, ASD team, Subject Teachers, Education Workers, Behaviour Resource Workers and other staff assigned to the program;

Implement strategies outlined in the BMS Plan and Positive Behaviour Support Plan;

Implement ABA methods/strategies as mandated by PPM 140; and

Be familiar with the use of augmentative communication devices and visual supports to promote effective social communication. Required Qualifications/Experience: Intermediate/Senior Qualifications

Special Education - Part 1Desired Qualifications/Experience: Teaching experience working with students with ASD and DD

Teaching experience working with students on fully alternative programs

Training in ABA, BMS, TEACCH

Teaching Students with Communication Needs (ASD) AQ

Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills
