Founded in 1921 by Colonel James M. Dunwoody, BDO has grown from a single office in Winnipeg to more than 100 locations across Canada. Today we employ over 3500 professionals from Vancouver to St. John’s, serving more than 50,000 clients in a variety of industries.

While we are firm of over 3,500 people, we work to ensure each onboarding experience is unique to the individual joining the firm.  Our goal is to provide each new hire with the tools and resources needed to achieve success. This includes the development of BDO’s Buddy Program.

BDO’s Buddy Program partners all new individuals to the firm with existing team members for the first six months with the Firm. The goal of BDO’s Buddy Program is to make each new employee feel at home with the Firm, lessen any initial confusion that can be faced by new individuals and to provide a resource for general or technical questions. 

BDO University

BDO University (BDO U) is our in-house virtual university. We leverage learning technology within BDO U to deliver a blend of live interactive, self-paced e-learning and virtual classroom programs. We also partner with external learning organizations like the Canadian Management Centre, Harvard Business School Publishing and Upstream Academy to ensure that our employees have the resources to excel and develop professionally. 

Learning and Development

Everyone at BDO is encouraged to customize a learning plan catered towards their personal and professional goals and successes. In addition to BDO’s many internal training programs, our external education program policy enables learning outside of the firm. Whether an individual is interested in building on existing skills to excel in a current role, or learning new skills to transfer to a new position, we can help you get where you want to go.

From a firm-wide perspective, BDO has partnered with the FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign since 2008. Each year, our offices hold local events to raise awareness and donations for local food banks. Throughout the course of our involvement, BDO has given more than 3 million pounds in food donations for local food banks.

Additionally, each employee is given paid time off every year to support a non-profit organization close to their heart. This allows them to give back to an organization or cause that they are passionate about in a way that directly impacts the community where they live and work.
