Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright)
Location: Etobicoke, ON
Salary: $28,000 – $35,000, depending on experience
Work Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor, the incumbent will be able to provide maintenance and repair support to the plant operations. The incumbent will primarily troubleshoot and correct mechanical, hydraulic, or pneumatic problems with production equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic is also responsible for repairing malfunctioning equipment, such as motors, pumps, valves, air and liquid piping, controls, ovens, and other machines.
 

Responsibilities:

  • Working in a safe, hygienic manner at all times, by following established safety, health, sanitation and housekeeping policies and procedures.
  • Troubleshooting electro-mechanical production equipment in order to keep our production lines running at peak efficiency.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the company’s heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment, production equipment, material handling equipment and building infrastructure.
  • Inspection/removal/replacement/repair of belts, chains, small motors and gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatic and hydraulic valves and cylinders.
  • Follow and help refine the preventive maintenance program, including recommendations to management on programs and equipment to improve efficiency.
  • Take plant readings and maintain plant log book and maintenance log book.
  • Assist contractor personnel as required.
  • Answer all calls for service and perform other duties as assigned and required.

 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Valid Millwright Red seal licence.
  • Minimum 3 years experience as a mechanic working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a food plant.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting packaging, production and material handling equipment.
  • Proficiency in all hand tools and power tools, including cutting, grinding and brazing. Welding skills are an asset.
  • Capable of basic electrical troubleshooting using a multi-meter.
  • Knowledge of appropriate health & safety and environmental regulations required.
  • Reading, writing and English proficiency needed to communicate with co-workers, parts suppliers and contractors.
  • Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision.
  • Required to operate a scissor lift and manual or powered pallet jacks, with the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to work at heights up to 30’ on platforms or ladders, including climbing a ladder to the roof.
  • Required to work on the ground under machinery, and work in coolers or freezers.
  • Flexibility to work extra hours or weekends if needed.
