You are here

Launched in 2008, the third-most popular social platform Pinterest is a network that you can’t ignore. Pinterest is an online pin board that lets you put your favourite images, blog posts, videos, and more on a single web page.
This social bookmarking site allows you to comment on, re-pin, and like content you find noteworthy. Not only is it a great way to procrastinate, but Pinterest also has an avenue to take advantage of for educational purposes. From creating a virtual resumé to networking and even career exploration, here’s how students are leveraging Pinterest:

Information gathering
Whether you’re in high school, college, university, or even grad school, Pinterest can help you find bits of information that give that extra oomph to your work. On Pinterest, it’s just too easy to find images or information to use in assignments, or show during class discussions. Even if you’re not on the hunt for information, Pinterest makes it easy to neatly save it for when you do need it.

Group work
Group work has never been easier with Pinterest in that it allows more than one pinner to pin to a board. Because Pinterest is oh-so-accessible, all group members can pin pictures, articles, videos, and other relevant findings to the group board and share the workload, easily completing their assigned parts.

Organization
They say that a messy room equals a messy mind. In other words, productivity stems from organization.  From tips on organizing your dorm room or apartment to your workspace or even your fridge, Pinterest has an inventory of suggestions to get you motivated to keep organized.

Infographic central
Infographics are the perfect way to visually present statistics into an orderly graphic. The fun facts you find could be referenced in your assignment or essay. (Be sure to credit them correctly!) Whether or not you use infographics in your work, Pinterest makes it easy to find in-depth information your text books sometimes can’t provide.

Meal ideas
Who doesn’t love recipes enhanced by mouth-watering pictures? Between collaborating on projects and organizing your dorm room, Pinterest can be an remarkable resource for busy students to make creative, simple, and quick meals or snacks.
These are just a few of many ideas to use Pinterest in the educational field. How do you use Pinterest?
